Summer 2021

Hello and Welcome to The Warmer Weather!

Summer is all about relaxing, having fun, showing off your brand new bikini body or latest qualification, and just generally reaping rewards from all the metaphorical seeds you planted earlier in the year. With that in mind, our content is no exception. There is so much that we are celebrating this summer at The Room – Psy, all of which we worked so hard on and are so excited to share with you.

We have said Hello! to a number of new writers and creators from all over the globe, all of whom have shared with us an array of valuable and curious life lessons, points for further research, and areas for self-reflection. From insights on how to break free from the productivity obsession, to harnessing adversities as tools for growth, from exploring cultural differences when seeking professional help for depression, to tackling loneliness. We’ve covered it all! Well, a great amount anyway, as more is always to come with new guest writer content and further additions to our expanding team.

Speaking of expanding…

The first month of the sunny season has already been off to a great start, with the release of our brand new podcast! If you didn’t already know, our fabulous first series ‘Tyranny of The Shoulds’, is hosted by writer, Chartered Occupational Psychologist and coach, Charlotte Sheridan. As one of the aforementioned new additions to our team, Charlotte will be writing and podcasting with us monthly on how different types of “shoulds” control our lives and how to break free from them, so to live a happier, more fulfilled, autonomous life. In each episode, Charlotte will be interviewing guests on their experience of battling different expectations and pressures in life, and how those experiences have either helped them or changed them. The insights and conversations had here, we hope will reveal and de-shame common hidden thoughts, inhibitions, and regrets that we all face; and how to change our perspective and empower ourselves, so that we may choose a life we design, rather than live one forced onto us by society, family members, or that anonymous nagging little voice that sits at the back of our minds.

If you are yet to hear our first episode, ‘Chasing The Money’, we advise that you hop on it - stat! To stream the first series, follow our podcast ‘The Room – Psy’ on Spotify and Anchor. Don’t have Spotify or Anchor? Not to worry, episodes will be made available on all other typical streaming platforms soon. For more info about the pod and where to listen to it, click here.

From earbuds to iPhones, what’s on offer for your scrolling thumbs doesn’t stop there…

We understand that recruiting research participants can be difficult – and to make matters worse –since March 2020 this battle was made far harder thanks to COVID-19. Therefore, last season, we decided to see what we could do to get involved and help. This led us to kick-start our latest initiative ‘Support Students’, where we have been helping Undergraduates and beyond, get their research projects out there and advertised FOR FREE on our website and across our social media platforms. This is an effort to help Higher Education Level students recruit more participants, faster, and therefore get one step closer towards that 1st Class qualification.

To expand this effort and to help even more students in the next academic year, this summer we are reaching out to Universities across the U.K and colleges in the U.S, so to offer them our catch-free services. We believe that successful students make for a successful future, and therefore, it’s critical to support them and get behind their research. If you would like to get involved and receive extra, free support and have your research promoted far and wide, then nominate your University/College/School/Research Institute by sending your Tutors/Heads of, this letter and let them know about what we’re offering! Alternatively, you can send us their contact details and we will reach out to them for you. For more information about this initiative and to see examples of student participation ad’s, click here.

This summer we are also sharing new content to our ‘Real Life: True Stories’ section. Our first inspiring yet terrifying release is from Sharon Aneja, who bravely shared how her life was put on the line after a routine surgery gone wrong. Sharon recounts how she navigated PTSD after this event and valiantly worked to overcome the physical and mental effects, turning her trauma into triumph. To read Sharon’s emotional journey and to find out how to build and sustain psychological resilience in times of change, or how to return to work after suffering trauma, click here.

Last but not least, we shall be releasing additional support projects for all of your mental health, legal, familial, and personal needs soon. Keep an eye on our new menu option ‘Projects & Support’ for the announcement of our next venture.

Thank you so much for reading this seasons ‘Letter from The Editor’. As always, it has been such a pleasure interacting with you all on social media and through email. Your continued support, views, comments and shares do not go unnoticed and we appreciate and see every single one of you.

Have a fantastic summer this year. The last fourteen months have been hard as we have worked to navigate the pandemic; and although we’ve been forced to stay at home, the time spent out of our usual routine has not been restful. Therefore, we encourage you to go easy on yourself this summer, and if you can, to book some real time off so to refresh and refuel yourself and most importantly, to have FUN. We have all been through so much pain, turbulence, and uncertainty – and it’s important to acknowledge that and give ourselves enough space so to mentally and physically catch up with ourselves and re-calibrate.

What will you be up to this summer? Popping some ice in the blender for a mocktail/cocktail and tuning into our new content we hope! As always, let us know your thoughts, what YOU want to see next season when Autumn approaches, and how we can support you as our valued readers as your opinions help us to make better content for you.

Enjoy, relax, and embrace the sunshine.
