Samantha Newport
Founder, Editor, Writer/Content Creator
I am the founder of ‘The Room – Psy’, Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Writer, Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology (Hons), and proud environmentalist. I have other experience and training in law, business, and social media. I initially set up ‘The Room – Psy’ to compliment my training as I progressed through Higher Education. The aim was to provide information, incite debate, and reduce stigma surrounding everything psychology and mental health. Since then, my professional aims and the purpose of ‘The Room – Psy,’ has evolved to incorporate more information beyond mental distress and disorder, to cover wider and deeper topics pertaining to health, society, wider aspects of psychology, and environmentalism. My aim now is to offer a range of therapeutic and holistic services through this platform, with a variety of amazing different professionals in the psychology field and beyond, as well as expand our new YouTube channel, host events and lectures, organise activism movements, charity promotions and beyond. Stay tuned.

Evelina Bakanaite
My name is Evelina, and currently I work as a Clinical Support Worker on a psychiatric ward. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I am starting my MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences this month. I am hoping to then pursue a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and become a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
I am a member with the BPS and try to be active with any events or conferences that are taking place to make sure I stay on top of the current research in psychology and mental health.
Alongside my paid work, I also volunteer with SHOUT UK, which is a Crisis Text Line providing critical support for those who are experiencing a crisis, or simply need someone to talk to.
My interests include social media and mental health, cultural differences in understanding mental health and mental illness, stigma, and therapeutic approaches.

Louise Elliott
My name is Louise, I am an ever evolving passionate individual. I have always been a deep thinker (some people say a crazy philosopher) which fuels my excitement for psychology and intellectual discussions.
In 2018, I graduated with a first class BSc (Honours) Psychology with Counselling degree. Throughout my time at university, I volunteered at Mind as a Mentor and Befriender. My current paid job is working within A&E as a receptionist and in the near future I hope to start training as a crisis text line volunteer. Needless to say, my journey into the psychology world has only just begun and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
My life philosophy is to live gently upon this earth and be kind to humans, animals and the planet. My future aspiration is to be the change I wish to see in the world and while this is achievable within a professional capacity, I aim to create a better world through personal actions and lifestyle choices. This is reflected in my passions which include not only psychology but philosophy, wellbeing, environmentalism, veganism and minimalism.
